In 1996 several colleagues at Oslo International School felt there was a need for a formalized organisation to bring together the English speaking international schools located in the Nordic Region to share ideas and visions. This resulted in Richard Caffyn, then a Y6 Primary Teacher, being given the task of organising an initial meeting and conference at OIS held in October 1997.
The first conference attracted about 70 participants and a handful of presenters. Schools represented included Copenhagen International School, Stockholm International School, Kuulasaari Primary School, Helsinki, Bladins International School and the International School of Tempere.
It was agreed by school leaders from Oslo International School, Copenhagen International School and Stockholm International School that there was a need for a Nordic Network and as a result the Nordic Network of English speaking schools was established.
